Welcome to Qurio,

Qurio was born out of AthensLive’s need to engage with its international community, and build relationships and understand what they want to learn about Greece.

The seeds for Qurio were planted at the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY in May 2018 by Tassos Morfis.

The idea started as “Project Epsilon” and you can watch the foundational presentation here:

Fast forward to the pandemic, the research project was supported by Starttech Ventures and Dimitris Tsingos, the founder of Starttech Ventures. Dimitris and Tassos share the same vision about society, technology, and democracy.

The brainchild of “Project Epsilon” was Qurio, which was conceptualized and built over the last couple of years with various iterations. You can always sign up and see what it looks like today.

Qurio is the result

The Method We Are Following

We would like to highlight the method we follow to build Qurio for two reasons. To be transparent and also like we are advocating for journalism that’s relevant to communities, we want to develop a tool that’s useful to small and medium-sized newsrooms globally.

We are following lean, capital-efficient methodologies to build this company because the news business is in shambles, and we’d like to de-risk as much as possible and create a case study where the industry organically helps Qurio because it is solving a real problem.

Why
QURIO?

As human beings and founders, we are being driven by curiosity. Our peers are curious. We want audiences to be curious about the world to understand its dynamics and functions, and journalists should help them with that. That’s why journalists need to be Qurious about the information needs of their audiences and serve them right.

That’s why we are building a tool that combines audience engagement with user research to help journalists create a better understanding of the communities they serve.

While audience engagement isn’t -yet- tied to revenue, audience research is fundamental to growing media businesses and should be a constant part of the workflow. Traditional audience research can be slow, expensive, and detached from the newsroom’s everyday work. Qurio changes that by embedding engagement tools right into your editorial flow.

With our AI-powered widgets, you can quickly generate questions tailored to your content and goals, allowing you to run micro-campaigns that capture reader feedback and insights in real time. By integrating AI with audience engagement, we’ve created a unique tool for building lasting reader relationships while gathering valuable data that strengthens your editorial and business strategies.

Our mission

At Qurio, we believe that news is a service and that “content” is abundant. What is not, it’s genuine relationships. Our mission is to help newsrooms become more relevant to the communities they serve.
by transforming one-way reporting into a meaningful, two-way dialogue. We provide intuitive tools that give news publishers the power to gather insights, ask questions, and truly listen to their readers — so you can build trust, gain actionable insights, and do journalism that matters.

Our vision

We envision a future where everyone who provides a journalistic service is equipped with powerful, easy-to-use tools that foster trust with their readers. Whether you are a journalism creator or work at a large hyper-local newsroom, we envision a future where society thrives through a unique synergy between journalists and their communities.
